ANZAC day-Lest we forget!

I was going to make ANZAC biscuits but there was no flour at any of the Countdown supermarkets so I decided that I would draw the poppy, to remember those who served our country.

  1. We couldn't make ANZAC biscuits either but we too put up poppies in our window to rememeber the fallen soldiers. Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served".

Here is a famous poppy poem...

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.
